  • Overview

    Orange Regional Medical Center (ORMC), is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization. Formed by the merger of Arden Hill Hospital and Horton Medical Center, Orange Regional moved the two campuses into a new, single-site, state-of-the-art facility on August 5, 2011. At that time, it was the first new hospital built in New York State in over 20 years. Orange Regional features seven floors of state-of-the-art technology and provides 383 beds and employs over 2,400 healthcare professionals. Most recently, Orange Regional opened a new cancer center and a new five-story Outpatient Services building on the main campus, featuring Orange Regional Medical Group with primary care and specialty physicians, urgent care, outpatient surgical and diagnostic services and more. Orange Regional is a designated Magnet hospital recognizing excellence in Nursing. Only 6 percent of hospitals nation-wide are designated by the Magnet Recognition Program. Also, Orange Regional’s Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system has achieved Stage 7; the highest level on HIMSS Analytics’ EMR adoption model which is used to track EMR progress at hospitals and health systems. Only 4.2 percent of the more than 5,400 U.S. hospitals received the Stage 7 Award. Orange Regional has also been named among the 100 best Hospitals nationally for cardiac intervention by Healthgrades.


    Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities; prevention of illness and injury; alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response; and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations (ANA).

    Orange Regional Medical Center Division of Nursing is guided by the New York State Nurse Practice Act, The American Nurses Association (ANA) guide to the Code of Ethics for Nurses, The Essential Guide to Nursing Practice, Jean Watsons Nursing Philosophy and Science of Caring, The ORMC Plan for Nursing Quality and Safety, and the ORMC Nursing Strategic Plan (NSP). The Division empowers nurses to work toward an improved healthcare system by providing safe, timely, effective, equitable, and patient centered care (IOM). ORMC Nursing Division promotes the Essential Features of Professional Nursing as indicated by the ANA, they include:

    • Active New York State Nursing License in good standing


    • Associate, Baccalaureate (preferred), Master’s, or Doctorate Degree in Nursing from an Accredited School of Nursing.


    • American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Certification Preferred (*Based on Certification specialty hours of work requirement).

    Physical Demands:

    • Considerable standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. Considerable visual demands.
    • New Hires - Must be able to perform RN essential physical functioning demands as determined by Employee Health / Pre-Screening Assessment
    • During any patient transferring task, if any caregiver is required to lift more than 35 lbs of a patient's weight, then the patient should be considered to be fully dependent and assistive devices should be used. (Waters, T. [2007]
    • Ergonomic stressors includes moderate to frequent heavy (lifting, positioning, pushing, and/ or transferring of patients). Must participate in Safe Patient Handling Initiatives.

    Mental Demands:

    • Work schedules may include irregular hours including nights and weekends.

    Working Conditions:

    • OSHA Directive CPL-03-00-016:
      • Contact with patient’s under a wide variety of circumstances.
      • May be exposed to unpleasant patient elements (exposure to blood and other potentially infectious material).
      • Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.
      • Handles emergency and crisis situations.
      • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment to ensure your safety which may include items such as gloves, safety glasses, respirators, or coveralls, vests, lead vests, and full body suits.
      • May have contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards.
    • ORMC abides with the New York Department of Labor / Nursing Licensure Board recommendation on the 16 hour work limit.

    Patient and Staff Safety:

    • Recognizes the importance of patient/staff safety precautions as it relates to specific department and area of responsibility.
    • Consistently utilizes precautions and follows appropriate procedure to enhance patient/staff safety in daily operations.
    • Identifies and reports any potentially dangerous situations which could cause medical error and/or patient or staff harm.
    • Immediately takes action, where appropriate, to minimize the risk of injury. Where appropriate to staff member’s responsibilities, reports errors, when these occur, to supervisor and in the MIDAS RDE system on an Incident report. Participates when appropriate in Root Cause Analysis and/or other efforts to reduce the risk of medical error and/or patient or staff harm.


    • Clinical nurses are accountable for completing their annual / required mandatory training within certain time frames
      • All clinical nurses must have BLS and this training must be kept current.
      • In certain clinical areas additional AHA training may be required. If you are transferring to one of these areas you must have the appropriate training prior to beginning the position.

    • Baylor Registered Nurse (RN) Requirement: Required to work every 3 out of 4 weekends, 12.5 hour shifts both days (Saturday and Sunday). If requested and upon approval from leadership, the Baylor RN may group weekends off consecutively in groups of 2; for example; work weekend 1, 2, 3; off weekend 4 and 5 and work weekend, 6, 7, and 8;
    • Hourly premium compensation rate includes : Base Rate + Step +20% differential;
    • Required to work one major and one minor holiday as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement;
    • Baylor RN employee shall serve a 120 day probationary period;
    • Baylor RN position will not be eligible for Health Benefits;
    • Baylor RN will accrue benefit time in the amount of 2.8846 per pay period totaling 75 hours per year inclusive of all sick, personal and vacation time;
    • Employees are expected to report to work on time and as scheduled. Attendance at work is considered one of the essential functions of each employee’s jobs at the Medical Center. Absenteeism affects other employees requiring adjustment of employees work schedules and work activities. Baylor RN acknowledges that failure to meet the Medical Centers Attendance standard will result in disciplinary action and absences will be prorated based on Baylor RN’s part time status.
    • Baylor RN will be eligible to pick up extra shifts, Monday-Friday, however compensation rate will not include 20% differential.
