Formed by the merger of Arden Hill Hospital and Horton Medical Center, Orange Regional is licensed for 383 beds and employs over 2,500 healthcare professionals including over 600 doctors.     The 4 West Nursing Unit is home to ORMC’s Bone and Joint Center where we specialize in providing orthopedic and spinal care to those patients who have received a hip or knee replacement; are recovering from a hip fracture, ankle fracture, or other fracture; are under the care of one of our orthopedic traumatologists, and patients who have undergone orthopedic or neuro spinal surgery.

    The 4 West Unit is a faced-paced unit that experiences a high volume of patient turnover on a daily basis requiring the nursing, therapy, case management, and Bone and Joint staff to work as a unified team to ensure our patients receive the very best care, in-patient experience, and outcomes. The role and responsibilities of the nursing director are critical to the overall success of the ORMC orthopedic service line. The nursing director should have demonstrated experience in leading high-functioning teams, excellent team building and problem solving skills, a strong ability to take initiative and drive improvement, and consistently demonstrate a commitment to quality and patient centered-care.

    The Nurse Director assumes twenty-four hour responsibility for planning and coordinating the clinical and nursing personnel aspects for the assigned patient care area to assure quality patient care. The Nurse Director is an integral part of the Nursing Management team and as a team member assists with establishing the goals/philosophy/standards of the department. The Nurse Director collaborates with physicians and Department Heads to assure that patient care needs as related to other departments/disciplines are met.


    Minimum Education: Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of New York.
    Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN) required
    Masters Degree in Nursing (MSN)/Nursing Administration preferred or
    commitment to attain degree.

    Minimum Experience: Five years of clinical experience in area of specialization (Orthopedics) required; two years in a nursing leadership position (Orthopedics) preferred.

    Required Certification/Registration: Ongoing current RN registration; BLS required, plus certifications specific to clinical area of responsibility, i/e, ACLS, PALS, NALS, TNCC; specialty board
    Certification preferred – OCN preferred and Med/Surg Certification preferred

    Physical Requirements: Standing and walking most of the day, lifting, moving patients and equipment,

    Working Conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, sights, sounds, agitated patients/families,
    and stressful situations. Participation in tasks that include an inherent potential
    for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood and body substances or a
    potential for a splash or spill of these substances. Subject to varying
    unpredictable situations, occasional irregular hours.
