The Certified Coder performs prospective reviews of codes diagnostic and procedural information that determines Medicare and private insurance payments, and analyzes results. The primary function of this position is to perform ICD-9-CM. ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding for reimbursement for multispecialty physician practice. Works effectively with practitioners and staff to resolve coding issues and associated problems. Utilizes CMS coding guidelines for multi-specialties. Complex coding skills are required at times. Uses analytical thinking and the ability to interpret financial reports as related to claims, cpt codes, and contractual reimbursement.
Associates Degree, courses in Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, CPT, HCPCS, ICD-9-CM/ICD-10 or equivalent work experience.
Experience: Must have 3 to 5 years in physician practice, with 11 months outpatient coding experience, equivalent training experience along with the ability to pass a competency test for E&M, surgical and procedural coding. Working knowledge of encoders and must be computer literate.
License: CPC, CPC-H, CCS-P, or CCS required.
Specialty Licensure: COBGC, CGSC, CIRCC, CCC, CCVTC, CPMA a plus
